Witness the spectacular Somerset Illuminated Carnivals
The Somerset Carnivals are widely regarded as the largest illuminated processions in the UK and Europe, and here they, are right on our doorstep! And guess what? The carnivals are free! However, please do give generously to the collection floats, which benefit many local charities.
Seeing is believing
Measuring up to 50ft long, the carnival floats and walking entries are the spectacular results of months of hard work and dedication by the many Somerset carnival clubs. It's impossible to put into words the magnificence of some of entries. The sheer size, sound and colours fill the streets from pavement to sky. Somerset Carnivals are definitely not just for kids!
Where to stay
If you're looking for a place to stay for this year's Glastonbury Carnival, our touring and glamping park gives you a perfect base to experience these spectacular sights for yourself. We have 88 touring pitches and 12 glamping units. Glastonbury town is just a few minutes away or you could try Wells Carnival (6 miles), Shepton Mallet Carnival (8 miles) or Bridgwater (15 miles). See below for details about the Carnival coach.
Where to eat
Following the success of our Carnival eating options at Abbey Tea Rooms in the past, we'll be organising this again for 2017. Choose from a traditional, home-cooked, 2 course meal with wine, while you wait for the fun to begin, or if you fancy a nibble later on or need a place to escape (or just use the loo!), there's exclusive access and an evening buffet at Abbey Tea Rooms, between 8pm and 10.30pm.
Our spacious 88 all-weather pitches are perfect for your caravan, tent, motorhome or camper, plus a variety of glamping accommodation; that coupled with our state of the art shower and toilet block facilities, Middle Oaks, will make Old Oaks the perfect base for your Glastonbury Carnival weekend away.
Getting from The Old Oaks to the carnival
Most routes into Glastonbury town are closed off by 5pm, so it's important to get into town early if you want a parking space. Following the success of the Carnival Coaches in 2016, we'll be organising these again in 2017 to ferry our guests into town (£6.95 per head), so that they can really enjoy the carnival atmosphere, have a glass or two of the local tipple and not worry about driving or where to park the car.
